Community Wellbeing Scrutiny Commission- Communities

Barnsley Council’s Community Wellbeing Scrutiny Commission is launching an investigation into how Barnsley people feel about the future of their communities and whether more can be done to help them to become stronger and more self-reliant?

The commission has decided to look at this issue because there are going to be big reductions in public spending (across the country as a whole £81 billion over a 4 year period). Barnsley will also be hit by these reductions.  For example, Barnsley Council will have to reduce its spending by £46 million over the next four years and other organisations such as the Fire and Police Services will also have to make reductions.

Members of the Commission want to find out just how much the public know about these reductions, what impact they think they are going to have on our communities and whether they think enough is being done to help them to meet these challenges. In particular, they want to know if more needs to be done to enable local people to do more for themselves and their neighbours.

That is why we want to hear from you and why we would like your answers to some important questions. We would be grateful if you could spare the time to help us with this important work and which is your chance to have your say.
