Welcome to Barnsley Council's e-Petitions
Petitions are part of Barnsley Council’s ongoing commitment to listening to and acting on the views of the public and one of the easiest and most popular ways of engaging in the democratic process is to sign a petition. A petition is a quick and easy way to bring issues to the attention of our councillors and influence local decision making. Anyone who lives, works or studies in Barnsley and who is a registered elector of the district of the Council can create or sign a petition.
An E-Petition is a petition which collects signatures online. This allows petitions to be made available to a potentially much wider audience than a traditional paper based petition. Anyone who lives, works or studies in Barnsley and who is a registered elector of the district of the Council can sign a petition. It is important that petitions say exactly what problem needs to be dealt with and if you do create or sign an e-Petition, you will be required to provide the council with basic personal information including an email address, so that we can contact you about your e-Petition and to verify the signatures collected. The information will only be used for this purpose, although we may need to pass your details to the relevant department to enable them to respond to the issues you raise.
We reserve the right to check the content of your electronic petition before publishing and once electronic petitions are processed, they will be open for 12 weeks to gain signatures before being referred through for consideration under the council's petitions scheme.
More details on the council's petition scheme are set out on our website http://www.barnsley.gov.uk/barnsley-councils-petitions-scheme, or you can contact the Council Governance Unit on (01226) 773421 or email cabinet@barnsley.gov.uk if you need any further information.
